Whale Tour
We leave Cape Town around 09h00 and head due east towards
the peaceful villages of Somerset West and Strand. We then drive through
the seaside village of Gordon's Bay where we have our first opportunity
of perhaps spotting whales from a scenic vantage point overlooking False
Bay. Our journey then continues along the gorgeous coastline to Kleinmond
and ultimately Hermanus, where one has the opportunity of either doing
a wine tasting at one of the beautiful local wineries or taking a boat
trip out to view the whales up close and personal (optional extra).
The 'Southern Right' Whales congregate in large numbers in Hermanus
(Walker Bay) during our winter months to calve and mate and whale watching
from the cliffs in the village itself is then considered by many to
be the best in the world. Enjoy a hearty lunch at one of the many wonderful
restaurants in the village whilst watching the whales frolic and cavort
in the calm waters of the bay. After lunch we visit some 'secret' whale
haunts before returning to Cape Town via the scenic fruit growing areas
of Elgin and Grabouw and Sir Lowry's Pass. |
