6 Days/5 Nights
- Garden Route, Bush Safari & Addo
This package is a combination
of the gentle Garden Route of the Western Cape and an exciting Bush
Safari in the malaria free Eastern Cape region, as well as a trip
to the Addo Elephant National Park. The tour starts and ends in Cape
Town.
Day
1 : Drive through the fruit orchards of Elgin and Grabouw to Swellendam
and on through the rolling wheatfields to Mossel Bay. Visit the Dias
museum complex (please note that between July & November we visit
Hermanus instead to view the seasonal whales). On through Wilderness
and the delightful ‘Lakes District’ to Knysna. Overnight in luxury
lagoon-side apartments in Knysna.
Day
2 : Visit the Knysna Heads. Drive to Plettenberg Bay
and Natures
Valley. Visit EITHER the Elephant Sanctuary
OR ‘Birds of Eden’ OR ‘Monkeyland’ OR ‘Tanikwa Wildcat Sanctuary’
On to the Tsitsikamma National Park and Storms River Mouth. Optional
short hike to the suspension bridge through the beautiful coastal
forest. Overnight in seaside cottages or in the village in the forest,
depending upon availability.
Day
3 : Visit the ‘Big Tree’. Drive to friendly Port Elizabeth. After
a delightful lunch we visit Schotia private game reserve for a true
safari experience using open air Land Rovers. After a traditional
South African ‘boma’dinner under the stars we also do a short night
safari before retiring for the night, either in a bush lodge or a
riverfront venue close by, depending on availability.
Day
4 : We enter the famous Addo Elephant National Park and do a gentle
game drive in search of the giant pachyderms. After lunch at the main
lodge we check in and do a quick freshen up before heading off for
our afternoon game drive. Overnight in a cottage overlooking a waterhole
and fall asleep to the wonderful night sounds of the African Bush.
Day
5 : After breakfast we drive along wonderfully remote country roads
with stunning scenery on our way toward the rural town of Oudtshoorn.
Visit the amazing Cango Caves. Overnight in quaint country lodge in
Oudtshoorn, the‘Ostrich capital of the World’.
Day
6 : Ride an Ostrich at Highgate? Drive the famous ‘Route 62’ through
the arid Little Karoo to Barrydale. On through rugged mountain passes
and the colourful fruit orchards and vineyards of the Breede River
Valley to Montagu, Worcester and the welcoming embrace of Table Mountain.
